The Green Bay Packers are a special team to play for. In the latter years of his tenure in Green Bay, former Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was quoted as saying that free agents signed with the team to “play with me.” However, Josh Jacobs‘ statements after Green Bay’s win over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday afternoon would indicate that it is the culture of the Packers that draws players in.
Talking to Tom Brady after the game about why he chose Green Bay in free agency, Jacobs said,
“Man you know, I liked what they had going on. I mean, I saw the culture that was built here. I saw the winning that was built here. I know the legacy of the Packers. I wanted to be a part of that.
“I felt like I was the missing piece, and I wanted to come here and put my stamp on the Packers.”
Interestingly, Jacobs came in as the face of the new-look running back room, which featured on particular player whose love for the city and organization is well-known. And now, that player’s future with the team is far from certain.
Green Bay Packers Running Back AJ Dillon Wants to Return in 2025
That player, of course, is running back AJ Dillon. After his rookie contract expired at the end of the 2023 season, Dillon turned down more lucrative offers in free agency and signed with the Packers for far less money.
“The Mayor of Door County,” as he is known, has made the state of Wisconsin his year-round home and where he started his family.
Unfortunately, Dillon has not been able to play this year after suffering his second neck injury in nine months back in the preseason. Green Bay placed him on season-ending injured reserve before the year even began.
A free agent again this upcoming offseason, Dillon knows exactly where he wants to be: back with the Pack:

“That’d be fantastic,” Dillon told Kay Adams in response to her question of if he would like to return to the Packers next season.
The question, though, is whether or not Green Bay will want him.
Jacobs is obviously going to be Green Bay’s starting running back next season. Behind him this year are second-year running back Emanuel Wilson and Chris Brooks.
And these three do not even take into account that Green Bay used a third round pick in 2023 on Marshawn Lloyd, who has spent most of the year on injured reserve.
In other words, Dillon may want to return to the Packers, but he would need to take another extremely team-friendly deal, and even then he would not be guaranteed a spot on the 53-man roster.
