The Green Bay Packers’ decision to move on from Aaron Rodgers prior to the 2023 season has looked better and better by the day. Of course, no one could have predicted the injury that would end his season last year, but Green Bay used that season to determine if Jordan Love could be “their guy.”
2024 has seen Green Bay start 8-3 and they are directly in the middle of the NFC Playoff picture. New York, on the other hand, has started the season 3-8 and are already looking to the draft next season.
However, the Rodgers’ latest update from the league really puts into perspective just how impactful this trade was.
Former Packers QB Aaron Rodgers Gets Career-Altering News From League
The Green Bay Packers’ decision to part ways with quarterback Aaron Rodgers was controversial at the time. Rodgers was leading a team that still had plenty of talent, but had just finished a disappointing 8-9 season:
Needing to find out if they had their quarterback of the future in Jordan Love or if they needed to explore additional options, they sent Rodgers to the New York Jets in a move that continues to look better with each passing day, and a recent list backs that up even further.
Making an appearance in Bleacher Report’s rankings of the worst quarterback contracts of the past decade is the three-year, $150.8 million deal the Packers signed Rodgers to in 2022.
B/R’s Brad Gagnon has ranked this as the fourth-worst contract during that span, with Cleveland’s deal with Deshaun Watson unsurprisingly taking the top spot. Gagnon made sure to note the level of play Rodgers has displayed under this current contract.
“Since signing this deal, Rodgers has been a part of 12 total wins and has posted a pedestrian 90.1 passer rating,” writes Gagnon.
