It’s not going very great for the Minnesota Vikings, who are trailing the Green Bay Packers and the rest of the NFC North in the division’s standings. Through 13 weeks of football, the Vikings are just 4-8, while each of the other NFC North teams has at least eight victories at this point in the 2025 NFL campaign.
A letdown offense has been a major reason behind Minnesota’s debacles. Quarterback play, for one, is far from ideal for the Vikings, who have JJ McCarthy as their top option under center. McCarthy, who missed his rookie season in 2024 with a torn meniscus in his right knee, is making just 54.1 percent of his passes in 2025.
Did former Packers RB just throw McCarthy under the bus before Week 14 Vikings-Commanders?

Speaking about the state of Minnesota’s attack, Vikings running back and former Green Bay star Aaron Jones said on Friday that the Vikings have been operating on a simpler version of the offense so that others can keep up.
“To me it’s not complicated, but to every—to some people… I wouldn’t say we had to dumb it down, but kind we made it less… I don’t know how to put it into words… I guess, yeah, we dumbed it down,” Jones said (h/t The Purple Persuasion).
Jones did not mention McCarthy by name while explaining the state of Minnesota’s offense, but it wasn’t hard for people to make the connection.
On the season, the Vikings are just 28th in the league with an average of just 18.7 points per game and 29th with only 272.6 total yards per outing.
McCarthy is coming back from a one-game absence due to a concussion, as Minnesota looks to snap a four-game skid and give its flickering NFL playoff chances a spark this coming Sunday against the Washington Commanders at home.
