Green Bay finds themselves squarely in the market for wide receivers. After trading Davante Adams, losing Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Equanimeous St. Brown in free agency, their wide receiver room is looking a lot different. However there are still plenty of options on the table for Green Bay, here’s five:
5. Sign Julio Jones
While Julio Jones is not the same wide receiver he was a few years ago, he is still capable of being a difference-maker for any team. We are deep into 2022 free agency, Jones is still unsigned, but that likely won’t last much longer. The pros for signing him? After coming off multiple disappointing years, he is a likely candidate for a “prove it” deal.
Jones is now 33-years-old and hasn’t been able to be the consistent big-time play maker he was just a few seasons ago. The one year in Tennessee did not do much for him. He needs to prove he can still be ‘the guy’ for a team.
4. Sign Jarvis Landry
If you take out last season, which was injury-plagued, Landry has caught at least 70 balls for at least 750 yards every single season. From 2015-2019, he made five straight Pro Bowls. In three of those seasons, Landry totaled over 1,100 yards. His 564 receptions through his first six seasons are the most of any player in that span in NFL history.
We have seen the inconsistencies of Baker Mayfield on full display. In Green Bay he would flourish with Aaron Rodgers. This team needs another leader. They need another veteran. They need another star. They need another great teammate. They need another stud alongside Allen Lazard. Landry can be that guy.
3. Sign Will Fuller V
Will Fuller has averaged a robust 14.7 yards per catch throughout his career. However multiple issues have caused him to miss most of the 2020 and 2021 seasons. Fuller is the ultimate case of the boom-or-bust receiver. “Boom” in him being one of the league’s premier deep threats when he’s on the field. The “bust” comes from whether he sees the field at all.
He suffered a broken finger in early 2021, however has had seemingly no issues (health wise) since. He also needs to prove he can still be ‘the guy’ for any team. The deep threat potential is there and Aaron Rodgers would unleash it. A healthy Will Fuller signing could be the steal of 2022 free agency. He can be THAT good.
2. Trade for D.K. Metcalf
Metcalf has the potential to be a corner stone piece to a franchise. He will not come cheap to whatever team he signs with, but his down field ability is something that Green Bay could use for the rest of Rodgers career. Green Bay has at least reached out about Seattle wide receiver D.K. Metcalf, and the Seahawks are listening. It is unkown if they are taking offers, but they are at least picking up the phone.
If I am Green Bay I am continuing to call to debate Seattle’s asking price. No doubt it will be around what Green Bay received for Adams or what Kansas City received for Hill.
1. Trade for Terry McLaurin
Before any of you assume he’s off the market, every block buster wide receiver trade this off-season has seemingly come out of nowhere. So, while nothing is imminent, Terry McLaurin has been a named rumored to be a potential trade candidate. In the final year of his rookie deal, Terry McLaurin is slated to be paid about $3M. However he expected to be in the $20-22M per year range once an extension gets done. However there is currently no talks of an extension getting done with Washington.
The market for wide receiver has gone absolutely bonkers this off season, and it absolutely seems like the time is right to consider “selling high,” on top flight wide receivers. If I am Green Bay I am looking for a wide receiver #1 of the future, Terry fits that bill.
