Options are slowly dwindling for the Packers when it comes to wide receivers. Bradin Cooks was the latest wide receiver to likely be taken off the board. Cooks signed a two year extension with Houston. There is some optimism that the contract was signed to make trades more appealing to other teams, however nothing official has been reported confirming that.
One Trade: Diontae Johnson
Diontae Johnson finished with 107 receptions (ranked 5th in NFL) and 527 yards AFTER the catch (ranked 8th in NFL) in 2021. He is a YAC MONSTER. In total he finished with 1,161 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. 59 of his reception in 2021 converted a first down. Over 50% of the time Johnson is moving the sticks.
Pittsburgh faces an uncertain off-season and a possible rebuild. Ben Roethlisberger is gone, Pittsburgh lost out on the Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, and Deshaun Watson sweepstakes. A possible rebuild is on the way. In 2019 the Steelers drafted Johnson in the third round, if Green Bay sends a second for him, that’s good business.
One Free Agent: Keelan Cole
Keelan Cole is turning into one of my favorite free agents to join the Packers. Over the last two seasons he has accumulated over 1,100 yards and 6 touchdowns. The teams he has played with over the last two years? The Jaguars and Jets.
His quarterback play hasn’t exactly been what you’d hope for as a wide receiver… The 6’1″ 190 pound wide receiver will turn 29 this year. He ran a 4.33 40 yard dash coming out of college and has kept that speed throughout his NFL career. He would be a low risk high reward type signing if the Packers got him on a cheap deal. Cole is a very talented wide receiver that could flourish with Rodgers.
One Draftee: Treylon Burks
Treylon Burks is not only a top prospect in this years’ draft, but it is realistic that he is available at #22. Treylon Burks is six foot two and weighs 225 pounds. He is a former four-star recruit and was the number-one high school player in the state of Arkansas.
Matt LaFleur loves a wide receiver who is versatile. Davante Adams lined up in multiple receiving positions, which is what made him such a weapon in LaFleur’s system. Burks possess the same abilities. He is versatile, and can line up outside or in the slot.
These three wide receivers plus Allen Lazard, Randall Cobb, Amari Rodgers, and Aaron Jones’ ability in the passing game would be electric.
