Once again, the Packers have one of the best offensive lines in the NFL. Even with moving parts along the offensive line, the results have been mostly positive. The Packers just know how important it is to protect the franchise. They have been doing a good job protecting Aaron Rodgers for most of his career. According to Pro Football Focus, the Packers offensive line twelve out of the last thirteen seasons have ranked in the top ten. Also, three of those seasons ranked the number one pass-blocking offensive line. The Packers are an offensive line factory and here is why.
They Got the Center Position Right On The Offensive Line
The center position is the most important spot on the offensive line. The center makes all the calls and the protections. They have to make sure that the interior pressure does not get pushed back into the quarterback’s lap. The Packers have never seemed to get this position wrong and it is really impressive. They’ve had Scott Wells, Evan Dietrich-Smith, JC Tretter, Corey Linsley, and now Josh Myers and even Elgton Jenkins who is versatile. How good this group of players were is pretty insane. A good example is in the 2020 NFL season; the Packers had the best overall center in the NFL in Corey Linsley and currently, this season the fourth-best center in rookie Josh Myers. Overall, the Packers have done well when it comes to the center position.
Scouting and Drafting Offensive Linemen Have Been Their Calling Card
The Packers do not get enough credit for knowing how to evaluate offensive line talent. They are arguably the best in the business at it. One example is Brian Gutekunst. He was a great talent evaluator for offensive linemen. He scouted players such as Scott Wells, TJ Lang, Josh Sitton, Bryan Bulaga, JC Tretter, and David Bakhtiari. Not to mention he has recently drafted Josh Myers, Elgton Jenkins, and Jon Runyan. The scouting department for the Packers deserves a lot of credit when it comes to the offensive line.
Coaching For the Packers Offensive Line Has Been Excellent
The reason why the Packers have been consistently great is because of the outstanding coaching they have had. Aaron Rodgers posted on his Instagram about his admiration for former Packers offensive line coach James Campen. The offensive lines coached by Campen were mostly always ranked in the top ten. He also developed the likes of Scott Wells, T.J. Lang, Josh Sitton, Corey Linsley, J.C. Tretter, Chad Clifton, and David Bakhtiari. Campen did an amazing job in his tenure with the Packers and Aaron Rodgers made sure it did not go unnoticed.
We can’t forget about current Packers coach Adam Stenavich, who has done an outstanding job in his own right. Stenavich has helped keep the tradition of great Packer offensive lines. This includes Elgton Jenkins, who is one the best linemen in the NFL, Josh Myers and Jon Runyan who are young up-and-coming players. Do not be surprised if he is in some head coaching interviews very soon.
