The NFL has a very big day ahead of them on Thursday. This is one of the biggest days in the history of the Washington Commanders. The NFL owners are expected to approve the sale from Tanya and Dan Snyder to Josh Harris.
This is a huge deal for Washington fans because they can finally have hope for the immediate future. Harris already owns other professional sports teams like the New Jersey Devils and the Philadelphia 76ers. Harris will now own an NFL team and this is the latest team that he will be an owner of in professional sports. What is also an interesting fact is that Josh Harris is from Chevy Chase, Maryland, which is not far from Landover, Maryland.
Hopefully, the culture with the Washington Commanders will finally change after many toxic years under Dan Snyder. What is so significant about the sale purchase?
Potential New Stadium for the Washington Commanders
There is a possibility with the sale of the Washington Commanders to a different owner that there will be a chance that the Commanders will move one day from FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland. Their lease will be up after the 2027 season and it will be interesting to see whether or not they move from Maryland or stay in Maryland.
The Washington Commanders could maybe move back to Washington D.C., but it would take about a decade to move over there. It would be cool to have NFL games over there. Recently, the Commanders were exploring potentially going to Northern Virginia in a town called Dumfries, Virginia, which is about 30 miles south of Washington D.C and potentially build a new stadium over there, but nothing has been approved yet.
There are a lot of emotions when it comes to moving the football team. The practice facilities are in Ashburn, Virginia. Even if they stay in Landover, Maryland, and not move anywhere else, the fact that Dan Snyder is no longer the owner of the Washington Commanders and Josh Harris is, it’s a win in itself. They haven’t won a Super Bowl title since he was the owner of this football team.
