Each and every year, a handful of NFL offensive coordinators who lose their jobs for one reasons or another. In most instances, it’s justified. The assistants may just be scapegoats. Regardless of the reason, plenty of NFL franchises make changes in their coaching staffs.
This year, there have been plenty of underachieving offenses and seats are heating up. How many offensive coordinators are going to lose their jobs by the end of the 2023 season? Immediately, a few names come to mind.
NFL Offensive Coordinators Whose Jobs are in Jeopardy
Brian Callahan

It’s no secret that the Cincinnati Bengals’ offense has not been up to par. Over the past two seasons, the Cincinnati offense has been among the best in the NFL. Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, Tyler Boyd, and Joe Mixon are good enough to make just about any offense look good.
This year, the Bengals opened the season with a 69.5% to make the playoffs. After dealing with a Burrow injury and starting off even slower than the team is used to, those odds have dropped significantly to 21.1% after getting to the bye 3-3. Not even a bye week which could be as good for football betting may be able to save the season for Callahan.
The Bengals have an incredibly difficult schedule to close out the year starting with a cleared Brock Purdy and the 49ers this Sunday, but that hasn’t stopped them in each of the last two years. If the Bengals falter down the stretch, the franchise could look to find a scapegoat. Zac Taylor has been a massive culture hire and whether or not his offense slows down, the team may look to give him another shot with a different offensive coordinator to continue to take advantage of the Burrow-led Super Bowl window.
Mick Lombardi
The Las Vegas Raiders have not been good in 2023. Whether it’s due to injuries or because Josh McDaniels, someone is going to lose their job by the end of the year. It’s entirely possible that the franchise will elect to continue to roll with McDaniels for some reason and the odd man out will be Mick Lombardi.
In his first season in Vegas, Lombardi was blessed with a top-five running back and top-five wide receiver in Josh Jacobs and Davante Adams. Despite that, the Raiders inexplicably finished 12th in points per game and 11th in yards. This year? Seventh-worst and 11th-worst.
Again, injuries have hit the Raiders. However, someone always gets the short end of the stick. For Vegas, it’s likely to be Lombardi.
Matt Canada
The odds-on first of the NFL offensive coordinators who should and will lose his job. He is the brunt of all of Steelers’ Nation—Matt Canada.
Not many NFL offensive coordinators will look great with a weak offensive line and Kenny Pickett at quarterback but Canada’s inability to do anything in terms of play-calling has his seat as hot as lava.
Pittsburgh has the worst and most lethargic offense in the NFL. For the Steelers, it is not just about execution, which has obviously not been there. Canada’s offense has been the most frustrating part of the team. Over his tenure, the wins have been thanks to the defense. The viral clip of Canada celebrating a win with Chris Boswell saying “not ‘cuz of you” perfectly encapsulates how the black and yellow fanbase feels towards the coach that has held them back
Of all of the offensive coordinators in the NFL, Canada’s seat is the hottest. Whether or not the franchise moves on from him is a completely different story.
