The San Francisco 49ers quarterback battle might be the talk of the NFL world during training camp. A former Wisconsin Badgers quarterback could join the mix of competitors to start for Brock Purdy until he can rehab from his elbow surgery. The 49ers have Sam Darnold and Trey Lance currently taking reps for the starting job during OTAs.

According to Aaron Wilson with KPRC, the 49ers are set to work out former Badgers quarterback Jack Coan.

Coan is getting another chance to show an NFC West team what new skills he has after he played in the XFL in 2023. Coan worked out for the Seattle Seahawks during their rookie minicamp in May. Per WSH Media files, Coan played with the San Antonio Brahmas this spring and had so-so numbers:
“Coan signed with the XFL team, the San Antonio Brahmas, this season. Coan has thrown for 1,471 yards with six touchdowns and six interceptions with the Brahmas.”
Now we’ll see if Coan can find work for training camp in head coach Kyle Shanahan’s quarterback-friendly system.
