NFL news: When the Green Bay Packers drafted Jordan Love in 2020, questions were raised as to whether the front office made the right decision using their first-round pick on a quarterback. This was right after Aaron Rodgers bagged his third MVP title, making him the top QB in the entire NFL.
Well, Brian Gutenkunst’s decision now appears to have paid dividends for Green Bay now that A-Rod has taken his talents to the New York Jets.
NFL News: Mark Murphy Heaps Praise on Brian Gutekunst’s Decision to Draft Jordan Love
Perhaps Gutenkust knew all along that Rodgers’ reign with the Packers was nearing its end. Then again, maybe not. Either way, he’s now being deemed as a visionary. Green Bay president Mark Murphy recently gave the Packers general manager his flowers, praising Gutenkust for his decision to draft Jordan Love when he did. Murphy also added that “the best time to draft a quarterback is when you don’t need one.”
Is this somewhat reminiscent of when the Packers drafted Rodgers back in 2005? At that time, some fans also questioned that decision given that Brett Favre was still in his pime. As it turns out, that was one of the best decisions the Packers organization ever made.
NFL News: Is Jordan Love the Next Aaron Rodgers?
Could Jordan Love now be following in Aaron Rodgers’ footsteps? Could the Packers usher in a Favre-Rodgers-like transition with Love now taking over the helm in Green Bay?
At this point, there’s no way to tell whether or not this will be the case. However, what you can say for sure is that Love will get his chance now that he’s been handed the keys to the castle. It goes without saying that it’s going to be a massive year ahead for the 24-year-old quarterback who has some very big shoes to fill.
