NFL news: You’ve all heard how much expectations Jordan Love is set to face in his first season as the Green Bay Packers’ QB1. Now that he’s out of Aaron Rodgers’ shadow, the young quarterback will also have to prove that he’s capable of filling the void that has been left by the four-time league MVP now that he’s taken his talents to the New York Jets.
For his part, Packers president Mark Murphy admits that he intends to use Rodgers as a barometer for Love’s success in Year 1. Talk about pressure.
NFL News: Mark Murphy Plans to Use Aaron Rodgers to Gauge Jordan Love’s Performance

Much like Love, Aaron Rodgers was in a similar situation with the Packers many years ago. This was after the Brett Favre era in Green Bay, and at that point, an up-and-coming A-Rod proved that he was indeed capable of taking over the helm.
Jordan Love will now need to do the same and show everyone that he can follow in Rodgers’ footsteps. According to Mark Murphy, he intends to look at Rodgers’ first year with the Packers to gauge Love’s level of success this coming season:
“I’m comparing it a little bit to Aaron’s first year as a starter, yeah, I’d say at least half a season to know (whether Love is the franchise QB),” Murphy said, via Eric Edholm of NFL.com. “And I think even though we ended up with a losing record that year, but we saw enough of Aaron to know that we had something special.”
The good news for Love is that he has half a season to prove himself, which all things considered, is a pretty long leash. The bad news is that he’s being compared to one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time. Needless to say, it’s going to be a make-or-break season for Jordan Love in 2023.
