Earlier this week, Minnesota Vikings rookie wide receiver Jordan Addison was cited for driving 140 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone. He was not arrested, but it certainly was not a good look for the promising 23rd overall pick.
On Saturday, a former Vikings player, four-time Pro Bowl selection Everson Griffin, found himself in trouble with the law as well. Griffin was arrested at 12:08 PM on Saturday for driving under the influence.
Former Minnesota Vikings Player Everson Griffin Arrested for DUI
Griffin enjoyed a 12-year career in the NFL, most of which was spent with the Vikings. In 2020, he split time between the Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions. The latter days of his career, though, were rough for his personal life.
In 2018, he took time away from the team following an incident at the Hotel Ivy in Minneapolis. During that incident, Griffin was reported to be acting paranoid and threatened to assault hotel staff.
In 2021, Griffin revealed to the public that he was struggling with bi-polar disorder. There was an hours-long standoff at his home after he posted a disturbing video on Instagram, prompting police and mental health professionals to respond.
Griffin’s last game in the NFL was on November 21 of that year, a Vikings win over the Green Bay Packers.
While Griffin was arrested and booked into jail at 12:41 PM, there are conflicting reports regarding whether or not he has been formerly charged. He was released one hour after booking.
Griffin clearly made a poor decision, and one hopes that the help and care he received in 2021 can continue to get him through this latest episode. Not only did he put himself in danger, but others as well.
NFL fans may recall a 2021 incident in which Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Henry Ruggs III got drunk and drove 156 miles per hour right into the back of a SUV, killing a 23-year old woman. Thankfully no one was hurt in this incident.
