NFL News: The Green Bay Packers may have one of the best kick-off returners in the entire NFL. Keisean Nixon came on in a big way for the Packers in 2023. The Packers’ special teams unit has been a disappointment over the years, but Nixon became a beam of light in a dark room. He took over kick-returning duties in week 8 and never looked back. He had 1,009 kick return yards, including a 105-yard touchdown against the Vikings. Going into the 2023 season, Nixon has some pretty high expectations.
Green Bay Packers Kick Returner Keisean Nixon Makes Emphatic Statement About The 2023 Season
Keisean Nixon may expand his role in 2023. He will likely spend time playing nickel, which will also allow Rasul Douglas to move back outside, where he recorded five interceptions back in 2021. The eventual return of Eric Stokes will also give the team a big boost on the outside and it’s looking like he could return as soon as camp starts. And, of course, there’s Jaire Alexander, the team’s lockdown corner, in the mix. Given all these factors, Nixon said the Green Bay Packers CB room could be the best in the league:
“We want to be the best and we’re going to show that,” Nixon recently told reporters. “I feel like we have the room and the corners to do it. Especially when [Eric] Stokes gets back.
“It’s going to be big. Y’all are going to see.”
With all the changes to the Packers’ offense, relying on a stout defense will be a “must” in 2023. Jordan Love, Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Samori Toure, Jayden Reed, Luke Musgrave, Tucker Kraft, Aaron Jones, and AJ Dillon make up an extremely young, but talented group. Many are optimistic about what this offense can do together, however, no one knows how long it will take them to get clicking.
Over the last five games of the season the Green Bay Packers’ defense allowed 17 points per game. If they can continue that trend into the 2023 season, it will give the offense time to get their groove. Special Teams and Defense will play a larger role than ever for the Green Bay Packers’ success in 2023.
