NFL News: The Green Bay Packers are headed into a new era. For the first time in 15 years, Aaron Rodgers won’t be under center for week one of the NFL season. That responsibility now belongs to fourth-year quarterback Jordan Love. Between trades and free agency, the Green Bay Packers have all of a sudden become one of the younger teams in the NFL, especially at the wide receiver position. Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, and Samori Toure headline the young, but talented group. That being said, much has been made about the Packers adding a veteran presence to the group. That’s exactly what ESPN expects to happen.
Green Bay Packers Expected To Sign Five-Time Pro-Bowler Jarvis Landry\
Field Yates of ESPN published an article that highlighted one move the Green Bay Packers can do before the start of the 2023 NFL season:
The Jordan Love and youth movements are on in Green Bay in the post-Rodgers era, with the team investing five draft picks on wide receivers and tight ends in April. I’m already getting excited about this offense’s potential. I understand that very few veteran pass-catchers available right now have a chance to be a major impact player on the field, but I do think there is a spot for a player who brings leadership qualities to make his mark.
As an example, while the team might want as many snaps for the youngsters who can play in the slot as possible, I do think Jarvis Landry’s presence would bring instant lessons in preparation that would pay off.
This isn’t the first time that the Green Bay Packers have been linked to Jarvis Landry, and with Matt LaFleur and Brian Gutekunst both acknowledging they’d like veteran leadership in the wide receiver room, this move makes a ton of sense.
Is Jarvis Landry To The Green Bay Packers Realistic? (NFL News)
The Packers currently have more than $16 million in cap space. The ability to sign a veteran wide receiver is certainly there. Landry, a five-time Pro Bowler, might be nearing his 31st birthday but he has always been a reliable option in the slot. Many NFL teams have been fixated on DeAndre Hopkins and his $15 million-a-year asking price, however, Landry would likely command a much lesser price tag and sill provide a reliable outlet for Jordan Love.
