The Detroit Lions have made some seemingly bizarre offseason moves. That trend continued with a trade the team made Thursday, and fans were ready to roast them for it after the NFL news dropped.
Some weird NFL news Thursday
The Lions went into the draft as favorites to win the NFC North. They spent their two first-round picks on a running back and linebacker. Their best draft selection might have come when they traded up from the Green Bay Packers to take safety Brian Branch.
Tuesday, the team made an interesting decision by trading with the Jacksonville Jaguars for kicker Riley Patterson who had been with the Lions during the 2021 season. (Patterson made 92.9 percent of his field goals for the Lions.) It was unclear at first what the Lions had traded for Patterson. It turns out to be for a seventh-round pick.
Fans respond to the Detroit Lions
Trading for a kicker just seems…weird. And for a seventh-round pick, that’s just stupid. The Lions now have three kickers on their 90-man roster and cut a wide receiver to make room for Patterson–who they had two years ago. After the trade was announced, Packers fans took to social media to mock their rival. Other NFL fans joined in the fun. Here are the best takes from the Lions trading for a kicker.
