Aaron Rodgers was always a better teammate in one major respect than his predecessor Brett Favre–he was a mentor to new Green Bay Packers starting quarterback Jordan Love. Rodgers had another message for a new Packers quarterback that went viral Thursday.
The Packers drafted Sean Clifford in the fifth round of this year’s draft. He’s battling Danny Eltling this summer for a depth spot to backup Love this year. Clifford has shown his skill in OTAs. He was recently praised for his two-minute drill performance in Tuesday’s practice.
Aaron Rodgers dropped a message for Sean Clifford
Clifford was one of several rookies who participated in a Fanatics video that showed former and current NFL athletes welcoming rookies to the league. One video showed Rodgers asking Clifford a question:
“Welcome to Green Bay. How’s my locker, by the way,” Rodgers asked Clifford. Clifford was seen laughing at the question.

Clifford just wants to play for the Green Bay Packers
Clifford has been asked about the locker before. According to WSH Media files, Clifford said he was more worried about his NFL career than where he stores his pads:
According to Rob Demovsky with ESPN, Packers fifth-round draft pick Sean Clifford was given Rodgers’ old locker. On the plate reads number eight, the same number Rodgers will wear with the New York Jets. It’s a simple but obvious message from the Packers organization, Rodgers has been replaced.
Clifford said he appreciated the history of who was in that locker but said his ultimate goal is to be the best Packers player he can be:
“I’m first and foremost just blessed to be a Green Bay Packer and be in the NFL, that’s what I’m really excited about. Secondly, I obviously understand who was in here before and I respect everything about that. At the same time, I came in, I found my name on the plate and I sat down…It’s a locker to me and I’m just excited to be in the locker room with these guys.”
As we’re seeing in practice reports, it seems Clifford is living up to his message. But I bet that video from Rodgers probably spooked the rookie a little bit. He’s storing his pads where a legend used to.
