Aaron Rodgers offered an explanation Thursday as to why he was so easily provoked during his time with the Green Bay Packers and why he won’t be with the New York Jets.
Rodgers was known for venting his frustrations during games and practices with the Packers. In fact, his epic tantrums were speculated as a major reason why he and the New York Jets staff did not want HBO’s Hard Knocks to film their training camp this year.
Regardless of the dimension of Rodgers’ gullet, Hard Knocks was filming the quarterback’s press conference during the Jets’ second day of training camp. And Rodgers is appearing sanguine for the media.
Aaron Rodgers was temperamental as the Green Bay Packers QB
According to Eric Edholm with the NFL, Rodgers acknowledged he was feisty while with the Packers but said he’s less prone to wrath now that he’s in New York due to his increasing age:
“The teaching part won’t all be on Rodgers, but he established a reputation of being a perfectionist in Green Bay — occasionally displaying his anger when things didn’t go according to plan. Rodgers didn’t deny that’s how he sometimes was with the Packers but insists he’s mellowed with age and wisdom.
“Maybe earlier in my career I was a little more easily angered,” he said. “Now I feel like I’m a little less triggered as I’ve gotten older.”
Rodgers still has time to be angry with the New York Jets
Good luck with the temper Rodgers.
I don’t buy Rodgers’ message about his mellowing out with age. The reason I’m skeptical, he was still lashing out at coaches and teammates last season. Rodgers was frustrated with rookie wide receivers in training camp last season.
The regular season saw multiple videos go viral of Rodgers getting upset during games. He even yelled at Packers head coach Matt LaFleur during the Dallas Cowboys game last season.
Rodgers might feel zen here on day two of training camp, but much more is left for his and the Jets’ journey this season. We’ll see how Rodgers reacts when the Jets face adversity this season. There might even be reports of cracks starting to show later in the preseason.
