The Green Bay Packers have a crowded cornerback room that is stacked with talent. Jaire Alexander, Rasul Douglas, Keisean Nixon, and Eric Stokes have been joined by 2023 NFL Draft pick Carrington Valentine (seventh round), who has been having a great training camp and has impressed in their two preseason games against the Cincinnati Bengals and New England Patriots.
The fact that Valentine is performing well is great news to the Packers who are likely going to be without cornerback Eric Stokes for the first few weeks of the regular season. Stokes suffered a nasty foot injury in the middle of the 2022 season and is still recovering.
As a result of Stokes’ probable placement on the PUP list to start the season, and the concern regarding the quality of depth behind their top four corners, and perhaps to make up for the loss of Tyler Davis on special teams, the Packers have signed former Vanderbilt and Louisiana Tech cornerback Elijah Hamilton.

What Does the Signing of Elijah Hamilton Mean for the Green Bay Packers

Elijah Hamilton went undrafted out of college and was signed by the Miami Dolphins following the 2022 NFL Draft. He did not make the team, though and instead spent time with the XFL’s St. Louis BattleHawks. He played in eight games and registered 13 total tackles.
Hamilton previously worked out with the San Francisco 49ers on August 11.
The young defensive back will have an uphill battle when it comes to making the team, or even the practice squad. The talent in front of him in the cornerback room has already been mentioned, and there are several other players from other positions that can play special teams.
This signing by the Packers is likely a corresponding move to Tyler Davis being put on injured reserve. He will practice with the team, but roster cut downs are coming quickly. Hamilton may not be around Green Bay long.
