NFL: The Green Bay Packers and Jordan Love are heading into a 2023 season that could be a defining moment for the franchise. Green Bay has a chance to prove that they have their third franchise quarterback in a row. Many have clamored all off-season for the Packers to bring in a veteran to help Love and this offense. As it turns out, the Packers have been linked to a familiar veteran who could come in and provide valuable reps for this team.
Green Bay Packers Once Again Linked To 7x Pro-Bowler Julio Jones (NFL)
Julio Jones is currently an NFL free agent and has been switching teams over the last few years. Jones played in 10 NFL games last season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He caught 24 passes for 299 yards receiving and two touchdowns.
Per Adam Schefter, Julio Jones drew interest from, amongst others, the Green Bay Packers and Buccaneers last off-season. Tampa was the most aggressive in giving its QB a new offensive weapon. The Packers currently have just over $13 million in cap space, more than enough room to sign a free agent, especially for the veteran minimum.
What Would Julio Jones Bring To The Green Bay Packers?
Jordan Love, Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Aaron Jones, AJ Dillon, Tucker Kraft, Jayden Reed, and Luke Musgrave (who figure to be the core offense for the Packers in 2023) have an average age of 23.8. Adding Jones (34) would bring a veteran presence they just don’t have on the team right now.
In 2015, Matt LaFleur’s first season in Atlanta, Julio Jones led the NFL with 136 receptions, 1,871 yards, and 116.9 yards per game. He also added eight touchdowns. The next season, Jones once again led the NFL in yards per game with 100.6. He added 83 receptions for 1,409 yards and six touchdowns. If Jones could put together even half of this level of production, he would be an incredible asset for the Packers offense.
