After the Green Bay Packers traded Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets prior to the 2023 NFL Draft, not many people in the media (or in their own fanbase) gave them much of a chance to compete in the NFC North. However, Jordan Love has played well in his first two preseason starts and the Packers have PFF’s highest graded offense and defense in the NFL.
As the narrative surrounding Love and the Packers has changed, so too as the narrative surrounding the other NFC North teams. More and more analysts are beginning to realize the the Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears, in particular, are not going to have successful seasons. As for the Detroit Lions, well, they have a long history of futility to prove is behind them before anyone seriously considers them a contender.
This is the view that NFL analyst Curtiss Brown of The Wrightway Network who predicts that Love and the Packers will win the NFC North in 2023.
Can Jordan Love Lead the Green Bay Packers Back to the Top of the NFC North (NFL)

In his article, Curtiss sites the Packers’ +350 odds to winning the division as an attractive bet, and argues that they have the best team out of the four NFC North teams:
“Green Bay’s offensive supporting cast is above average but it’s manageable. Running backs Aaron Jones and A.J. Dillon makes a solid running back duo, and the wide receiver room of Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs and rookie Jayden Reed should contribute. Christian Watson caught fire last season and he looks primed to break out.
“The offensive line should be good and overall the offense can be a top 15 group if quarterback Jordan Love looks decent. Defensively, the unit has talent but the run defense has to be better, it finished second-to last in Defensive Rush EPA/per play. Favorable schedule & favorable win total, Green Bay will retake the NFC North but with quarterback Jordan Love.”
Curtiss goes on to call the Lions the most overhyped team in the NFL, the Vikings a fluke team last year and a work in progress this year, and the Bears overrated. He predicts the standings by the end of the season to be:
- Packers: 10-7
- Lions: 9-8
- Vikings: 8-9
- Bears: 6-11
It makes sense that the division will be a close race. Aside from the Vikings somehow lucking into 13 wins last year, the Lions and Packers finished 9-8 and 8-9 respectively.
The 10-7 record for the Packers indicates a successful season with plenty of ups and downs. However, Green Bay does have a favorable schedule this year and could be a big surprise to many. Jordan Love has a 124.7 passer rating through two preseason games, and while they are just preseason, opposing defenders have come away very impressed.
And of course, winning the NFC North means a return to the NFL Playoffs, and anything can happen in January.
