NFL: The Green Bay Packers defeated the Seattle Seahawks 19-15 in their final preseason game ahead of the 2023 regular season. As has been the case all summer, all eyes were on new starting quarterback Jordan Love, who has taken the reins since Aaron Rodgers was traded to the New York Jets. Love started slow, completing just two of his first six passes, but ended the game 9/15 for 63 yards and a touchdown.

Adding up Love’s totals for each of the three preseason games, he completed 21 of 33 passes (63.3%) for 190 yards, three touchdowns, zero interceptions, and a 109.8 passer rating.

The touchdown pass that Love threw against Seattle was to 2022 second round pick Christian Watson, who will undoubtedly be one of the Packers’ top targets this season. Afterwards, Watson spoke glowingly about his new starting quarterback and how steady he has been throughout the preseason:

“I think we’ve all known from the jump that Jordan was ready to go. … I think that he’s been able to show his poise and his ability to command this offense and command this team. Like I said, we’re ready to go.”

These comments are similar to the ones he made previously in the offseason in an interview with PFF:

“People need to understand that [Love] was learning and practicing and in the meeting rooms with a Hall of Fame quarterback each and every day. He’s his own quarterback, but I’m sure he’s taken so many things from Aaron [Rodgers]. We’ve seen a lot of flashes of what he can do. It’s only going to be put more on display. Everything we’ve seen so far is only going to be multiplied. We’re ready to go out there and ball. We have full confidence in him.”

Of course, it is only preseason, but Love has displayed great patience and simply has not been rattled when things are difficult or do not go his way on the field. He has also made some very impressive throws, the back shoulder touchdown pass to Watson being one of them.

Everyone says, “Wait until the regular season and then we’ll see what he does,” and that’s fair. But don’t forget what Love did when he last played meaningful minutes in a regular season game: he lit up the Philadelphia Eagles defense.
