NFL: The Green Bay Packers are entering a new era. On the heels of the massive Aaron Rodgers trade, Jordan Love is set to be the first quarterback not named Brett Favre or Aaron Rodgers to start week one for the Packers in 31 years. With such a significant change in the quarterback room, the Packers are looking for a solid backup to Jordan Love in the event the worst-case scenario happens. Today they brought in yet another quarterback in an attempt to do just that.
Green Bay Packers Workout Quarterback Jason Eason (NFL)
The Packers worked out free agent quarterback Jacob Eason on Tuesday, according to the NFL’s personnel notice. Eason has remained a free agent since the Panthers cut him in May. The Colts made Eason a fourth-round pick in 2020, but he has played only two regular-season games.
At the NFL level, Eason has spent time with the Colts, Panthers, Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers. He was waived by the Panthers in May of 2023.
A Washington native, Eason spent two seasons at Georgia before transferring to Washington. He made 13 starts for the Huskies in 2019, completing 63.8 percent of his passes and throwing 23 touchdown passes against eight interceptions.
What Does The Packers Quarterback Room Look Like Now?
The Packers signed USFL MVP Alex McGough last week and also have Danny Etling and fifth-round pick Sean Clifford behind Jordan Love. It would appear the Packers will be rolling with five quarterbacks heading into training camp.
President Mark Murphy said Love has half a season to prove to the team he’s the future of the Packers at quarterback. Murphy said that’s approximately how long it took the Packers to know Aaron Rodgers was the guy to lead the team long-term after Brett Favre. If Love isn’t proving his worth by midseason, the Packers need to come up with a plan to land another quarterback.
