After selecting Lukas Van Ness 13th overall in the NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers only made one selection last night. Tonight, they will have three picks. They will have picks 42 and 45 in the second round and pick 78 in the third round. The rest of the NFC North was busy last night as the Lions and Bears moved around. Here is how the rest of the NFC North panned out last night.
Chicago Bears

After trading the number one pick to Carolina a few months ago, the Bears entered the NFL draft with the ninth pick. They made a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles and dropped one spot to 10. With the 10th pick, the Bears selected Darnell Wright, an offensive tackle out of Tennessee.
Wright was a player that was linked to the Packers. A lot of fans wanted him as the future of David Bakhtiari in the green and gold isn’t certain past this year. I was surprised Chicago didn’t select Christian Gonzalez out of Oregon. I think this is a good pick for Chicago and it gives them a long term answer to protect Justin Fields.
Detroit
Detroit held the sixth pick in the NFL Draft before last night. However, they traded with Arizona after the Cardinals traded out of the third pick with Houston. With pick 18 already, the Lions received the 12th pick and the 34th pick from the Cardinals. At pick 12, the Lions chose Jahmyr Gibbs, a running back out of Alabama. With D’Andre Swift and David Montgomery already on the roster, this was one of the more questionable picks in the first round. Gibbs seemed like a player Detroit could have gotten at 18 or even pick 34.
With the 18th pick, Detroit selected Jack Campbell, an inside linebacker out of Iowa. Again, I think this was a reach pick as well. However, Campbell tested great at the combine and was seen as one of the top interior linebackers in this draft. It’s clear Detroit wants to clean up that side of the defense. They got an above average athlete and a great tackler with a nose for the ball.
Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings stayed put last night and owned the 23rd pick in. After losing long time receiver Adam Thielen to the Carolina Panthers, the Vikings went with a receiver right away. They selected Jordan Addison out of USC. I see the reason behind it as they need to have a compliment to Justin Jefferson who is one of the best receivers in NFL..
It is interesting they did not address defense. The Vikings were one of the worst defenses in the league last season. The reason they had a good record and won the division was because they went 11-0 in one score games. For as bad as they were on defense a season ago, it was interesting to see them go offense right away especially with how receiver heavy day two seems to be.
