The NFL Draft 2023 is approaching next month in April. One position that is really deep this year is the cornerback class. There is a lot of talent at that position in the draft this year. One player that is arguably the best of the whole group is Devon Witherspoon, the cornerback from Illinois.
NFL Draft 2023: Do the Packers Go Back to Cornerback?
He is a very solid corner and has not done in the whole NFL Draft 2023 process due to injury, but it will not affect his draft stock. Witherspoon could be a player on the Packers’ radar this year in the first round. Yes, cornerback is not a huge need for the Packers, but it is still a very good possibility the Packers draft Devon Witherspoon. Here’s why:
Devon Witherspoon Can Play the Slot, Allowing Rasul Douglas to Move to Safety
One big positive for Devon Witherspoon is that he is the most versatile corner in this NFL Draft 2023 class. He can play outside and inside at the slot corner position. According to Pro Football Focus, he played 109 snaps in the slot and played pretty well there. The Packers could use a slot corner, and he could be the answer at that position on defense.
He would play there mostly due to Jaire Alexander and Eric Stokes playing on the outside at corner. Also, if he is drafted by the Packers, he could help push Rasul Douglas to safety, as the Packers need help at that spot. It would be the makings of a good secondary if Witherspoon were the selection by the Packers with their first-round NFL Draft pick in 2023.
