GREEN BAY, Wis. (December 13, 2025) – The NFL handed down discipline Friday following last Sunday’s heated Bears-Packers rivalry game, fining Chicago rookie wide receiver Luther Burden III $11,075 for unnecessary roughness during a second-quarter scuffle with Green Bay cornerback Keisean Nixon.

The altercation began after a short run when Burden shoved Packers CB Carrington Valentine multiple times near the helmet area. As players intervened to separate them, replays showed Burden grabbing Nixon around the neck—deemed the instigating action in the secondary flare-up:

Nixon responded by shoving Burden away, which drew a 15-yard unnecessary roughness penalty on Green Bay. The flag extended a Bears drive that ended in a field goal, prompting visible frustration from Packers coach Matt LaFleur on the sideline.

    NFL’s Ruling and Context

League review determined Burden as the primary aggressor, issuing the fine while no discipline came for Nixon or other Packers players involved.

Despite the penalty, Nixon had the final word: His late end-zone interception sealed a 28-21 Packers victory, propelling them atop the NFC North standings.

    Broader Implications

Burden, a highly touted rookie, has shown flashes but now faces financial discipline early in his career. The fine underscores the NFL’s strict enforcement of post-play conduct, especially in high-emotion matchups.

No appeals have been reported yet. As the season winds down, both teams remain in playoff contention, setting up potential rematches with added intensity.
