NFL: Aaron Rodgers is the face of the New York Jets franchise for (at least) the 2023 NFL season. Just days before the 2023 NFL Draft the Green Bay Packers and New York Jets agreed on a massive trade to send the four-time MVP out east. The Jets have been in the limelight ever since that trade went down. Many believe it will be Super Bowl or bust for New York this upcoming season. The limelight grew even more when it was announced that the Jets would be featured on this year’s season of Hard Knocks. When Aaron Rodgers heard this news, he wasn’t happy.
Aaron Rodgers Not Happy With The NFL’s Decision To Host The New York Jets For Hard Knocks
According to Adam Schefter with ESPN, the Jets will be the main feature on HBO’s Hard Knocks. The Jets, Chicago Bears, Washington Commanders, and New Orleans Saints were all teams that could not refuse to be on this show this season. Because of the Rodgers trade, most NFL fans and HBO producers hoped to have the Jets on the show. Aaron Rodgers made his feelings known when the decision was reached:
“Listen,” Rodgers told Vern Glenn of KPIX from the American Century Championship in Lake Tahoe, per Bridget Hyland of NJ Advance Media for NJ.com. “One of the only things I like about ‘Hard Knocks’ is the voice of God who narrates it, Liev (Schreiber), I hope I get to meet him.”
“The Jets technically can’t decline, although the NFL typically does not make a team submit to ‘Hard Knocks’ when it doesn’t want to,” Florio added. Rodgers suggested he and the Jets had little say in the matter.
“But look, I understand the appeal with us,” Rodgers continued. “There’s a lot of eyes on me, eyes on our team, a lot of expectations for our squad. They forced it down our throats and we’ve got to deal with it.”
The New York Jets Have Been Under A Microscope Ever Since The Aaron Rodgers Trade
The New York Jets made it clear they didn’t want the attention, however, they’re going to have to get used to in. The media will be all over the team as long as Aaron Rodgers is under center. Many fans will be intrigued to see Rodgers getting along with a new team with a great chance of making a playoff run this season.
That hopeful playoff run will feature players who were once Aaron Rodgers’ teammates. Nathaniel Hackett (although a coach not a player), Allen Lazard, Randall Cobb, Adrian Amos, Tim Boyle, Malik Taylor, Billy Turner, and Adam Pankey were all added to the Jets’ roster this off-season. Each of them had previously played with (or coached) Aaron Rodgers. The amount of storylines to follow with the 2023 New York Jets was too good to pass up for the league.
