The Green Bay Packers and New York Jets have been reportedly working to get a deal done for Aaron Rodgers for over a month now. Rodgers declared his intentions to play for the Jets back in mid-March. While it is still presumed that the Jets are still the favorites to land Aaron Rodgers, multiple other teams have officially reached out regarding the four-time MVP. One of the biggest holdups in the trade talks is the compensation the Jets are reportedly willing to give up. It has been “laughable” to say the least.
New York Jets Trade Demands For Aaron Rodgers Are Laughable
According to Peter Schrager, a senior Writer for Fox Sports on his podcast, recorded on April 11, the Jets don’t want to:
- Give up #13 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft
- Give up both 2023 2nd round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft
- Give up an unprotected 2024 1st round draft pick
This is the full quote from Schrager on his podcast:
“I was told from people not in either building that the Jets were looking to make a trade where it would not involve the first-round pick, it would not involve both of the second-round picks, and it would involve a future first that was conditional.”
He added that there would need to be “some sort of multiple-season commitment” from Rodgers for that conditional pick to become a first. The Green Bay Packers are trading away a four-time MVP quarterback and one of the greatest players to ever don the green and gold jersey. To think that Aaron Rodgers isn’t worth ANY of those “demands” is absolute abusrd.
No team has endured a longer playoff drought than the Jets. They have searched for answers at the quarterback position for years. Since Brett Favre spent one season in New York, starting quarterbacks for the Jets have included Mark Sanchez, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Sam Darnold, and Zach Wilson.
We also need to remember that, at the end of the day, the Jets have a timeline, the Green Bay Packers don’t. The New York Jets want Aaron Rodgers in-house as soon as possible to start working out and training with their roster. The Green Bay Packers could wait until week one of the 2023 NFL season to trade Aaron Rodgers if they wanted to.
In the midst of swirling trade rumors, the New York Jets’ proposed compensation for acquiring four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers has raised eyebrows. The Jets’ reluctance to part with significant draft picks is seen as laughable by many. For more in-depth analysis on this ongoing saga, check out our Aaron Rodgers News and Packers News sections.

A 4 time mvp towards the end of his career that is a stop gap to another qb in 1 maybe 2 years. So your supposed to mortgage the future for that . It makes no sense. Better to look at another trade partner and draft a qb than sign that deal and don’t forget his cap hit then you can’t sign anyone else
Rodgers, his contract and his Diva show are not worth a first round pick at this point.
If he’s that great why is GB getting rid of him. lol Reading this article is like listening to Biden tell us how great everything is going
Diehard Packers fan but the only things insulting about this whole process is this article and anyone who tries to paint the Jets as unreasonable. Rodgers routinely cries retirement, has stated very recently he was considering retirement before his darkness retreat. Plus last hall of Fame caliber QB Packers traded went to the Jets and last. Single season.
This is so stupid. Is Rodgers a great player? Yes, of course. But he also recently said he was 90% sure he was going to retire before deciding to play for the Jets. Who’s to say he doesn’t decide to retire after a single year with the Jets? Why in the world would you give up much for that uncertainty, especially when you’re also taking on his enormous salary?
Aside from that, the Packers don’t want him anymore. They’ve wanted to move on from him for several seasons now. They can trade him and get him off of their books or they can pay him $50 million to ride the bench and potentially be a stumbling block for Love. Should he struggle with Rodgers still there you can be sure there would be calls to bench him in favor of Aaron.
All of the talk of value in the article is looking backward. He’s a 4 time MVP. So what? Is he going to do that while with the Jets? Is his heart even really in it anymore? The Jets are trying to evaluate his value going forward, not pay for greatness that may well be in the past.
Rodgers is still a great Quarterback, however, he is 39 years old. A 1st round pick is out of the question, a 2nd rounder is a good trade, but not both because they don’t know how long Rodgers is committed to playing 2 or 3 more years. Also, a conditional 1st round pick in 2024 if he plays 2 seasons.
