Following the recent report that Aaron Rodgers had given the New York Jets a wish list, the team is reportedly in contact with a member of the list. Two time former All-Pro wide receiver and Super Bowl champion Odell Beckham Jr has been in contact with the Jets. As free agency enters their second wave, Beckham Jr will be searching for his new home next year.
New York Jets Reportedly Contact All-Pro Receiver Beckham Jr
Over the past few days, the chase for the elusive wide receiver has begun to heat up. First, Odell Beckham Jr has reportedly engaged in positive discussions with the Cowboys and sought a multi-year deal from the organization. Since Beckham Jr still has not signed, it appears the Cowboys are mulling their options before committing one way or another. Then, the Kansas City Chiefs reportedly showed interest in Beckham Jr after attending a private workout for 12 teams.

Most recently, Dianna Russini reported this morning that Odell Beckham Jr has begun initial talks with the New York Jets. Russini, who also reported the wish list of players Aaron Rodgers wants the Jets to sign, now says that the Jets could close in on Beckham Jr as their next free agent addition.
Beckham Jr stood at the front of the NFL news world all last season as a free agent. Each week it seemed as though a team was closing in on officially signing the talent receiver. However, Beckham Jr has been committed to signing a long term deal and unfortunately did not play at all last season. Now one year removed from football, the receiver sits in a similar position as before.
The financial details of what Beckham Jr is looking for in a contract is not clear at the time. However, it must not be close to what teams have been willing to offer due to the amount of negotiations that have fallen through now. It appears as though Beckham Jr is still at the same roadblock as the first wave of free agent receivers have already signed.
Will the New York Jets Sign OBJ?
Currently, no other sources have reported that Beckham Jr is talking to the Jets. Clearly Russini could be the first, but after Rodgers debunked the existence of a “wish list”, it is unclear whether or not he has contacted the team. Beckham Jr may very well talk to Jets however, given the current state of their receiving room.
The Jets have three main receivers whose futures are currently unknown. Corey Davis is set to make $10.5 million this year with a cap hit of nearly $12 million. If the Jets are still not done in free agency, Davis could be cut to save money this year as he is also on an expiring contract. Denzel Mims and Elijah Moore are also in uncertain situations as both players can potentially be traded.
Between the emergence of Garrett Wilson and the new signing of Allen Lazard, the Jets have a busy receiving room. The team will certainly have to move on from a receiver this off-season, but depending on the status of Beckham Jr and the draft, the Jets could move multiple players. Mims and Moore seem like the obvious candidates due to their public unease with the Jets coaching staff. Both players saw their playing time get cut in half last season and will only see less plays with the direction the franchise is moving in.
