Aaron Rodgers isn’t a New York Jets quarterback yet
The New York Jets are waiting on Aaron Rodgers to be traded by the Green Bay Packers. Jets head coach Robert Saleh said Monday there isn’t a great urgency to finalize the trade. The attitude of many members of the Jets seems relaxed about the trade eventually going through. A recent report gave an update on the Jets’ backup plan for Rodgers. It appears telling the team isn’t too worried.

Former Packers wide receiver Allen Lazard signed with the Jets in free agency. Lazard recently came out and said he wasn’t worried the trade wouldn’t go through. The Jets are signing offensive weapons in anticipation of the trade going through. With reports coming out the two sides are far away in negotiations, it might make sense for the Jets to devise a plan to hedge their bets.
Other options at quarterback for the Jets
One intriguing option that caught NFL fans’ attention this morning was Lamar Jackson. Jackson recently announced on social media that he had asked the Baltimore Ravens for a trade a few days before the team applied the non-exclusive franchise tag ahead of free agency.

According to Mike Garafolo with the NFL Network, the Jets don’t currently have a backup plan if the Packers never okay the Rodgers trade deal. Garafolo repeatedly said Jackson as a backup option that would make sense, but the Jets appear uninterested in the 26-year-old MVP quarterback:
“I do know this,” Garofolo said on NFL Now. “The Jets have the opportunity to explore other quarterback options. Lamar Jackson could be one of them, let’s just throw that one out there right now. They’re refusing to engage in any of those right now. They won’t talk to other teams about potential trades. They won’t look at Lamar Jackson or any other veteran available right now because they still believe eventually this is going to get done.”

Not having a backup plan would appear to be a massive risk for the Jets after their free-agency signings. The Jets are putting it all on the table to win a Super Bowl next season. However, a trade for Jackson right now would include losing two first-round picks. The Jets are hoping to give up less draft capital for Rodgers. And they think their trade with the Packers is in the bag.
