The New York Jets coaching staff had a rough night because of the Aaron Rodgers news after Monday night’s win in overtime at home against the Buffalo Bills 22-16. Rodgers is potentially going to be out for the season with an Achilles injury, and head coach Robert Saleh, after the game, told the media it doesn’t look good for him moving forward.
Even with the win for the New York Jets, it felt like a loss because they lost their most prized possession, quarterback Aaron Rodgers. They acquired him via trade from the Green Bay Packers this offseason. The Jets were in win-now mode. With the Rodgers injury, Zach Wilson will be the starting quarterback for the rest of the season, Saleh announced.
On Good Morning Football, Peter Schrager talked about how the New York Jets coaching staff felt after the win last night against the Buffalo Bills, even after losing Rodgers for the season. Schrager said:
“It’s 7:05 in the morning, and I’ve been texting three different Jets coaches for the last several hours. They haven’t slept. They’re like so many Jets fans this morning. They’re devasted over Rodgers, and devasted for Rodgers.”

Coaches usually sleep well after wins, but this was a tough circumstance for this franchise that was ready to take that next step with that elite defense. They deserve credit for not folding after Rodgers got hurt in the first quarter after only having four snaps with this offense.
What is next for the New York Jets and Aaron Rodgers?

After this game, the New York Jets will go on the road next week and face the Dallas Cowboys. Dallas has one of the best defenses in the NFL. New York had a lot of marquee games scheduled because of Aaron Rodgers. It is now going to look different, and will see if the NFL flexes them out of prime time slots later on in the seasons.
New York is also facing Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night football in Week 4 at home. A lot of people were looking forward to the Rodgers vs. Mahomes matchup. They also had a Black Friday matchup with the Miami Dolphins and Tua Tagovailoa. Another marquee matchup that was on the schedule for them this season was on Monday night football in Week 9 against the Los Angeles Chargers and Justin Herbert at home.
This was going to be such a fun season for NFL fans to watch Rodgers in a different uniform other than the Green Bay Packers, but it all was shattered in a matter of seconds.
The Super Bowl expectation, once so promising and hyped up all off-season, is gone. One coach on the Jets’ staff said to Diana Russini of The Athletic, “Was that all a dream?”
It could have very well been just a dream, and that’s why Jets coaches had a difficult time with sleep on Monday night after the win. Is a potential Aaron Rodgers retirement on the table? That will remain to be seen.
This should have been a happy occasion for the fanbase and the franchise this season. However, even with the win last night, it still feels like a loss for the Jets faithful.
