The New York Giants had practice on Tuesday and two of their key starters were held out of practice ahead of next Monday night’s matchup against the Green Bay Packers. The two starters that were held out were right tackle Evan Neal with an ankle injury and defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence with a hamstring injury.
They both missed the 10-7 win against the New England Patriots due to injuries. Neal has not been reliable at right tackle at all this season for the Giants and when he has been available, he has been one of the worst offensive linemen in the league.
If for some reason Neal is available on Monday night against the Green Bay Packers, they need to make sure that Rashan Gary is lining up against him. Gary can very well get three sacks against him. Giants fans think Neal needs to move guard or be off the roster entirely because they already think he is a bust as a second-year player.
As for Dexter Lawrence, he is one of the best defensive linemen in the NFL at the tackle position. The Packers will have a tough time blocking him in the interior if he is active. New York Giants head coach told Dan Duggan of the Athletic that there is hope that he will be back later this week.
The Green Bay Packers Will Be Fine Against the New York Giants No Matter What There Injury Report Looks Like
The Packers should be fine against the Giants unless Dexter Lawrence wrecks Green Bay’s offense. The offensive line has been better during the three-game win streak, but Lawrence’s presence should not be ignored if he is active for the Monday night matchup.
He has 41 total tackles, four sacks, and two pass deflections so far this season for the New York Giants. Dexter Lawrence has been doubled team several times and usually never misses games due to injury. It will be up to the Green Bay Packers interior offensive line to keep him in check and not make quarterback Jordan Love uncomfortable.
As for Evan Neal, if he does not play on Monday night, expect Tyre Phillips to start at right tackle once again. Phillips has been better than Neal has at right tackle, but the Green Bay Packers led by Rashan Gary should be able to generate a pass rush against them. This is the ultimate trap game for them. This is a game they should win, but the Giants will be fighting also.
