The New Orleans Saints are a long shot to make the NFL playoffs, as they are just 5-9 through 15 weeks in the 2024 regular season. But they’re still technically in the hunt for a playoff spot, and they will look to score a win this coming Sunday at Lambeau Field versus the Green Bay Packers.
Before that matchup, the Saints made a move on former Kansas City Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire, who was waived earlier in the week by the reigning Super Bowl champions.
New Orleans Saints adds former Kansas City Chiefs RB before Week 16 vs. Green Bay Packers
The Saints signed Edwards-Helaire to their practice squad on Wednesday. There’s a chance he can be promoted to the main roster before the Packers game, with New Orleans not expecting to have star running back Alvin Kamara active in Week 16 due to a thigh issue.
Edwards-Helaire did not see action in a single game this season for the Chiefs, as he started the campaign on the non-football illness list.
“Clyde Edwards-Helaire said it was a surprise to get the call from the #Saints, but he saw the 504 area code pop up and knew exactly what it was. Said it was too perfect an opportunity to pass up.”
Selected in the first round (32nd overall) of the 2020 NFL draft by the Chiefs, Edwards-Helaire, also a former LSU Tigers star, has 1,845 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns on 441 carries in his pro career thus far.
Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the 25-year-old Edwards-Helaire appears thrilled by the opportunity to be with the Saints.
