Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo has no shortage of awards for his play on the basketball court. As great of a player that he is, though, he is just as great of a person. Earlier this week, Giannis was voted the winner of the Pro Basketball Writers Association’s (PBWA) Magic Johnson Award.
The Magic Johnson Award “honors the player who best combines excellence on the basketball court with cooperation and dignity in dealing with the media and the public.” It was named after Hall of Famer Magic Johnson, whom the PBWA holds as the model for best practices in regards to how players interact with the media.
Why Did Milwaukee Bucks Star Giannis Antetokounmpo Win the Magic Johnson Award?

As mentioned, the Magic Johnson Award is given to the player who media members believe is the most engaging and most professional in his dealings with the media. Interestingly, Ray Allen won the award in its inaugural season (2000-01) while playing for the Bucks.
Giannis has been known for his humorous and laid back manner with the media for years. On Father’s Day, the Bucks Tweeted out a compilation of some of the dad jokes Giannis has used to start his press conferences:
Wouldn’t be Father’s Day without some of Giannis’ best dad jokes. 🤣 pic.twitter.com/J7fMfdjKzH

It is nice to see Giannis getting some recognition for the kind of person he is off the court. Milwaukee is truly fortunate to have such a genuine human being as the face of the franchise.
