NBA News: The Milwaukee Bucks are headed into an interesting 2023 NBA season. After an earlier-than-expected exit from the 2023 NBA playoffs, the Bucks decided to take their organization in a new direction. Adrian Griffin is the new head coach for Milwaukee and expectations remain at an all-time high. After Bradley Beal was dealt to the Phoenix Suns, the Bucks will have to focus elsewhere if they want to add to their roster. Coincidentally, the Bucks were named in a massive trade that would land a different superstar.
Milwaukee Bucks Land Jaylen Brown In Latest Trade Proposal
An article by Kevin McCormick of NBA Analysis Network outlined a scenario that sent two-time all-star Jaylen Brown to the Milwaukee Bucks:
After coming up short of reaching the NBA Finals this season, the Boston Celtics have a big decision to make regarding one of their All-Stars. Since he was named All-NBA, Jaylen Brown is in line for a massive supermax extension.
If Boston decides to offer the max amount, Brown’s contract would come in at around $290 million over the next five years. That is a massive price tag for one player, especially with the new CBA getting ready to begin. Ahead of such an important decision, some have already discussed the idea of the Celtics trading Brown instead of offering that deal.
As an All-Star player in the prime of his career, Brown would garner a lot of interest around the league if he were made available. Recent betting odds have the Atlanta Hawks as the favorites to land him. However, the Milwaukee Bucks are not far behind them.
Similar to the Celtics, the Bucks are a team looking to compete for titles in the Eastern Conference. They might also be down an All-Star, depending on what Khris Middleton decides to do this summer. Right now, he has a $40 million player option for next season.
If Middleton has intentions of leaving, Milwaukee should certainly set its sights on Brown. From a fit perspective, he could fit seamlessly alongside their other two All-Stars.
Pairing Brown with Jrue Holiday in the backcourt would give Milwaukee arguably the top defensive backcourt in the league. Playing alongside such a capable playmaker would also take pressure off him to facilitate as well.
Would The Milwaukee Bucks And Boston Celtics Essentially Swap Khris Middleton For Jaylen Brown?
From the sounds of it, Khris Middleton is staying in Milwaukee baring any unexpected last minute changes. NBA executives project Middleton to command a four-year, $130 million contract from Milwaukee should he decline his $40.4 million player option for the upcoming season and enter unrestricted free agency.
If Middleton were to re-sign with the Bucks for four years and $130 million, his annual salary would be $32.5 million, a slight drop from his current salary. However, due to Middleton’s age (he’ll be 32-years-old at the start of the upcoming season) and recent injury history, it makes sense for both sides to come to an agreement on this type of deal.
Committing to a five-year $290 million contract for Jaylen Brown would certainly be more expensive than Middleton, however, it would secure a 26-year-old superstar in the middle of his prime. I think the biggest question to ask would be “would the Celtics trade one of their best players to one of their biggest conference rivals?” That seems much more far fetched than the contract situation. It would have to take a significant trade package to lure Brown to Milwaukee.
