NBA news: The basketball world was hit with some tragic news on Monday after it was reported that Milwaukee Bucks head coach Adrian Griffin’s two-year-old grandson passed away over the weekend. Reports indicate that the death came from natural causes after the young boy suffered what was considered a “routine respiratory infection” last week.
NBA News: Adrian Griffin Releases Statement on Tragic Death of Grandson
Coach Griffin has now broken his silence amid this horrific tragedy. The 49-year-old kept it short and simple as he requested privacy for himself and his family as they grieve the death of their beloved Jace Griffin:
“My grandson Jayce was very special to me and my family, and his passing is an agonizing tragedy that will be felt forever,” Griffin said in a statement released by the Bucks, via NBA.com. “I appreciate your respecting our family’s grief and privacy at this time.”
I can only imagine what Griffin and the rest of his family must be feeling right now. Our thoughts and prayers go out to them during these trying times.
NBA News: No Foul Play Involved in Death of Adrian Griffin’s Grandson
Jace Griffin passed away on Saturday morning after he was pronounced dead at the Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois. According to a statement released by Champaign County coroner Duane Northrup, there was no evidence of trauma or foul play in their investigation:
“At this time, the death of Jayce Griffin appears to be from natural causes pending additional testing and final autopsy results,” Northrup said in a statement.
According to reports, it was Adrian Griffin himself who informed Jace’s mother, Jasmine Riggs, of the incident via a phone call on Saturday. Jace was under the custody of the Bucks coach’s son, Alan Griffin. It was Alan who found his son unresponsive in the basement of their home on Saturday morning.
Surely, the Milwaukee Bucks and the entire community will offer their support to Coach Griffin in whatever way possible as he navigates through what is truly a devastating family tragedy.
