NBA news: Despite the fact that he is now set to become literally the second-oldest player in the entire league, LeBron James is still an undeniably dominant force. In fact, one might even argue that he’s still the top player in the NBA right now. Well, Los Angeles Lakers teammate D’Angelo Russell does not believe this is the case.
NBA News: D’Angelo Russell Adamant Nikola Jokic is ‘Best Player’ in NBA
For Russell, this title unquestionably belongs to Nikola Jokic. After leading the Denver Nuggets to their first championship in franchise history (which also included Denver sweeping the Lakers in the Western Conference Finals), Russell no longer has any doubt in his mind:
“Yea, they got the best player in basketball,” Russell said on a recent episode of The Pat Bev Podcast (h/t David Akerman of Lakers Daily). “They got the best player in basketball on that team. No disrespect to nobody, he’s the best player in the NBA right now. Not even close.”
In all honesty, there are probably a handful of players out there that should be in contention for the NBA’s top-dog honor over LeBron. After all, he is going to be 39 this season. However, it’s still a bit surprising to hear his own teammate completely rule him out of the race like this. In Russell’s mind, nobody comes close to Nikola Jokic as the best player in the NBA right now — regardless of the fact that Russell will see LeBron James every single day in practice this coming season.
NBA News: Let’s Continue Overlooking Giannis Antetokounmpo
When I said previously that there should be a handful of players that should be in contention for the title of being the best player in the NBA, the first name that came to mind is Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks. At this point, it’s so easy for folks to overlook this man as the most dominant force in the league today.
For his part, Giannis is just keeping his head down. At the end of the day, the most important thing is winning a championship. Antetokounmpo has done this once in the past, and if and when he does it again in the near future, then the so-called experts will have an awfully hard time keeping the Bucks superstar off their respective lists.
