NBA news: The entire basketball community is still waiting on Giannis Antetokounmpo’s decision ahead of the FIBA World Cup. The Milwaukee Bucks superstar is still rehabbing an injury in his left knee, and at this point, there is still no guarantee that he will be able to suit up for Greece for the upcoming international tournament.
This decision could come soon as Antetokounmpo takes a major step to determine his status for the World Cup.
NBA News: Giannis Antetokounmpo Headed Back to US to Undergo Tests on Injured Knee
ESPN’s NBA guru Brian Windhorst provided a timely update on Giannis’ injury status with the tournament set to tip off in two weeks’ time. According to Windy, Antetokounmpo is headed back to the US to undergo tests on his problematic left knee:
“He’s scheduled, in the near future, to travel back to the U.S. to get a checkup on the progress coming off of that procedure, and then a final determination about him playing in the World Cup,” Windhorst said Thursday (h/t Julia Stumbaugh of Bleacher Report).
Giannis underwent a cleanup procedure in his knee earlier this summer and he has since been working hard to get ready for the FIBA World Cup. You can be sure that the Bucks will play a key role in Antetokounmpo’s final decision, and this upcoming trip back to America will likely involve an important meeting between Giannis and Milwaukee’s medical staff — one that could determine whether or not the former back-to-back MVP will be available for the highly-anticipated tournament.
NBA News: Giannis Antetokounmpo In Serious Danger of Missing FIBA World Cup
At this point, Giannis has been officially listed as “doubtful” for the World Cup. This could all change after the aforementioned trip to the US, but it’s very much possible that Antetokounmpo is ruled out of the tournament altogether. The entire nation of Greece is holding out hope that their star player is able to suit up for the World Cup, but at the end of the day, this decision could be out of his hands.
