NBA news: The Boston Celtics made some big moves this summer. In fact, you might even argue that by adding former All-Star big man Kristaps Porzingis, the Celtics are one of the teams that have made the biggest, if not the most significant upgrade in all of the league. Let’s also not forget that they had to give up one of the most important and influential players on their squad in Marcus Smart as part of this blockbuster trade.
Given all this, you can be sure that there are going to be a lot of expectations for this team to perform this season. The same is the case for incoming second-year head coach Joe Mazzulla.
NBA News: Richard Jefferson Believes Joe Mazzulla Will Be Under a Lot of Pressure This Season
In a recent episode of his podcast, Road Trippin’ Show, former Milwaukee Bucks star Richard Jefferson shared his honest thoughts on Mazzulla’s tenure with the Celtics. Jefferson believes that Mazzulla will still be sitting at the helm in Boston at this time next year, but at the same time, he believes that the front office will be watching his every move in 2023-24:
“He’s got be under a microscope,” Jefferson declared.
Jefferson’s co-host on the show, Channing Frye, agreed with RJ’s assessment. Frye, however, had a much more animated description of just how much pressure Mazzulla will be facing this season:
“Trust me, I was in Boston,” Frye replied. “Microscope?! They up in his as*hole like this. Listen, don’t let him fart wrong. Gone!”

That’s one way of looking at it, I guess. Whatever the case may be, there’s no denying that Mazzulla’s seat is going to be warm all season long. He won’t be a candidate for the first coach to be fired this season — after all, he did lead Boston all the way to the Conference Finals in his first year — but there’s going to be a lot of buzz around him if the Celtics don’t perform up to their lofty standards.
