NBA news: Greece’s hopes for the upcoming FIBA World Cup will rely heavily on the injury status of Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo. At this point, the former NBA MVP is still a doubt to suit up for the prestigious tournament as Giannis continues to recover from offseason knee surgery. Right now, things are not looking good for Antetokounmpo and the Greek national squad.
NBA News: Greece Coach Drops Ominous Update on Giannis Antetokounmpo’s FIBA World Cup Status
Greece head coach Dimitris Itoudis recently provided an update about Giannis and his brother Kostas Antetokounmpo. Apparently, neither of the two Antetokounmpo brothers have joined the squad as of yet:
“They are still not practicing with the team and we don’t have something more to say right now,” Itoudis said, via Harris Stavrou of SPORT24.
This does not bode well for Giannis’ chances of suiting up for the upcoming tournament, which tips off in two weeks’ time. All hope is not yet lost, though, and Antetokounmpo still has some time to recover. However, it would not be a complete shock if Giannis ends up missing the FIBA World Cup altogether.
NBA News: Bucks Will Play Major Role in Giannis Antetokounmpo’s FIBA World Cup Decision
You just know that the Milwaukee Bucks will play an integral role in Giannis’ final decision. In fact, the Bucks could actually force Antetokounmpo to pull out of the tournament if they feel that the injury risk is too significant. Antetokounmpo underwent a cleanup procedure in his left knee earlier this summer and ideally, he is supposed to use the whole offseason to recover. However, Giannis clearly wants to help the national team compete for a medal in the World Cup, which gives both the Bucks and Antetokounmpo’s camp a huge dilemma.

I kinda hope he doesn’t play in the world cup. I feel doing so last year, he ran out of steam in the playoffs and got hurt. Sorry if I’m being selfish. I love the Bucks and want to see them go to the championship again. They can’t do it without a healthy and rested Giannis.
