Every new NBA year starts with banter about the Most Valuable Player race. The 2025/26 run should keep that buzz strong all season long with several candidates having emerged. Fans, writers, and casual viewers already shape rough lists and weigh stats and stories. Some people scroll through hoops forums during late-night breaks from work or study. Finding the latest MVP odds at the Dolly review site fuels discussion over long shots and safe picks. That kind of side track feels like a joke, but the core point stays clear for people who care. They want to see which star can blend sharp skill with steady team wins across long months. They need that mix to be strong enough to make voters feel sure when they mark sheets in the spring. This guide looks at clear front-runners, the key rules that lift them, and bold outside threats who wait for one big break. Readers who track output, health, and story heat gain a better view of the fight. The race bends, swings, and flips more than any clean chart, so patient study pays off in the end.

    The Modern NBA MVP Checklist

Voters never use one box score line when they pick an NBA MVP. During 2025/26, they study a mix of fresh stat tools and old school box scores. Notable stats include:

    • Player Efficiency Rating
    • Box Plus Minus
    • Win shares per forty-eight minutes

Big Moments: Sharp eyes still trust big plays and moments, like late-game deep threes or hard chase-down blocks that save a win.

Injury-Free: Strong health carries more weight each season as injury duration has grown amongst the games stars. A mark near seventy games feels like a baseline for a real run.

Team Success: Team wins stay key, and since 1988, only Russell Westbrook has taken the trophy without a top-four finish—a rare one-off.

Fan Culture: Off-court life shapes talk around the race and colors how people feel when they vote. Working with kids, a steady locker room, and open talks with press crews all help a star gain trust and build NBA fan culture. Extra skill across spots on the floor brings more love from fans, so a big man who slings passes like a guard or a wing who protects the rim grabs minds.

    Front-Runners

Oddsmakers place Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic, and the 2024-25 MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander at the front of the 2025/26 MVP race.

Nikola Jokic (current odds range +160-180) comes off another year of sharp scoring and smart reads that lift his whole team. With no look feeds and soft floaters, he keeps pushing the limits of what a center can do. If Denver grabs a top seed again, his near triple-double nights should carry huge weight.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (current odds range +150-200) remains the top choice for many voters, going back and forth with Jokic. SGA is OKC’s star, and there isn’t much he can’t do. Silky on the attack, smooth when he needs to be in defending.

Luka Doncic (current odds range +270-380) steps into his age twenty-seven season with a reworked Dallas group that suits his game. The front office added more shooters and a steady rim guard who can clean up mistakes. His pass numbers should rise, and his work on defense should feel lighter.

    Outside Shot

It’s hard to imagine putting some of these players in an “outside shot” category, but it should indicate the insane level the top three are playing at right now. Still, there are four players we feel are not totally out of the race yet.
