There were not a lot of teams more disappointing in the 2023-24 season than the Milwaukee Bucks. They were expected to at least go deep in the NBA Playoffs. Instead, they came limping into the postseason where they got embarrassingly eliminated in the first round by the Indiana Pacers.
The Milwaukee Bucks have an aging roster
The 2024-25 season brings new hope for the Bucks. It will be the first full season under the coaching of Doc Rivers. They also still have Giannis Antetokounmpo, Damian Lillard, and Khris Middleton. That’s a solid core. But one concern for the Bucks has been recently raised by ESPN’s Zach Lowe (h/t Luke Adams of HoopsRumors).
“This team is getting older and less athletic around Giannis (Antetokounmpo),” Lowe said. “They don’t have a lot of young guys in the pipeline. This is a right-now team that went 17-19 under Doc Rivers before the Giannis injury took them out of the playoffs. They just never found their footing, and they’ve got to find it fast in an Eastern Conference that has gotten better top to bottom in the playoff race.”
At the time of this writing, the Bucks have six players 30 years old or older, including Brook Lopez (36), Lillard (34), and Middleton (33). Antetokoumpo is 29 years old at the moment but he will be 30 in December.
It is a constant challenge for all teams in the NBA to find a way to inject youth into their rosters, and the Bucks are no exception. Still, the Bucks are expected to seriously contend for a title in the coming season. Their window isn’t as big as it used to be, but there’s a window nonetheless.
