On Monday night, the NBA Draft lottery took place in Chicago, Illinois. The biggest prize for the 2025 draft class is Duke Blue Devils superstar Cooper Flagg. Entering the night, the Charlotte Hornets, the Utah Jazz, and the Washington Wizards had the best odds to win the lottery.

However, Charlotte fell to the fourth pick, Utah fell to the fifth pick, and Washington fell to the sixth pick. The Philadelphia 76ers are drafting third overall, the San Antonio Spurs are drafting second overall, and the Dallas Mavericks will have the number one overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. Philadelphia, San Antonio, and Dallas all had weaker odds to win the lottery than Charlotte, Utah, and Washington. A lot of fans turned into conspiracy theorists after the Mavericks won the draft lottery.

NBA Fans Claim the Draft Lottery Is Rigged After the Dallas Mavericks Get the Number One Overall Pick

The second that Dallas won the draft lottery, many fans in the NBA became keyboard warriors with the NBA Draft lottery being rigged. This is not a surprise because the Mavericks traded away Luke Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers and then Nico Harrison gets rewarded with the best college basketball prospect in quite some time. This is what some NBA fans had to say after the Mavericks landed the number one overall pick:

The draft lottery has always been rigged

    – LeBron to Cavs
    – Rose to Bulls
    – Lakers top pick to draft Lonzo
    – Pelicans compensated with Zion for trading AD to Lakers
    – Mavs compensated with Flagg for trading Luka to Lakers
    – Spurs draft another generational big, Wemby pic.twitter.com/DWZUECLRuS

OMG. Dallas wins the NBA Draft Lottery with a 1.8% chance. That sure seems Rigged to me. Thanks for sending Luka to the Lakers! pic.twitter.com/tEAmFKJ65d

The NBA is blatantly rigged it’s hard for me to enjoy the product. Everyone knew the Luka trade was rigged by Silver, and for the Mavs to be rewarded with a 1.8% chance of winning the lottery and it actually came through is just absurd.

Adam Silver made Nico Harrison trade Luka to LA to get the NBA ratings as they were tanking, and in exchange for that they rigged the lottery so Dallas gets Cooper Flagg

Nothing can convince me otherwise at this point pic.twitter.com/Aoc7Wy42UK

This is not a surprise that a lot of NBA fans have issues with this. Would the Dallas Mavericks trade the number one pick or would the San Antonio Spurs trade the number two pick for Milwaukee Bucks Giannis Antetokounmpo? Dallas will probably draft Flagg and the Spurs could potentially deal that pick for Antetokounmpo. Lastly, the NBA needs to get rid of the draft lottery because how are these bad teams supposed to get better if the NBA decides to screw them over every single year in the NBA Draft lottery? It’s a joke at this poinr.
