Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo announced on Monday that his production company is set to produce a film. He posted on his Instagram stories about his new film project in which he will be credited for the first time as a producer.
Improbable Media, Antetokounmpo’s production company, has partnered with international production banner Studio Galazio and local Greek production company BLONDE S.A. to produce a heist comedy film entitled “Mykonos,” named after the famed island in Greece.
“Guys, you know how much I love Mykonos…” Giannis wrote. “So I’m very excited to officially announce, my production company, @improbablemedia, has partnered with @studiogalazio to produce my first feature film as a producer… MYKONOS, the movie, written and directed by Christopher Andre Marks, is coming soon…”
The movie will feature an ensemble cast, according to the Hollywood Reporter. It will star Julia Fox, Riccardo Scamarcio, Klelia Andriolatou, Andrew Georgiades, Panos Koronis, Vito Schnabel, Makis Papadimitriou, Maria Kavoyianni, Yorgos Pirpassopoulos, Alan Asaad, and Christos Passalis.
“Mykonos” will be set on the European island with the same name and will feature a story about a group of shabby thieves. It will be directed by Studio Galazio CEO Christopher André Marks, who also wrote the original screenplay.
“It is a privilege to collaborate with such a talented international cast and crew on this film, especially as we embark on our first major project in Greece,” Marks said.
Alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo, Ginevra Tanberi, Donna Bloom, and Raphael Benoliel will also co-produce the film.
Giannis Antetokounmpo teamed with former NBA player to establish Improbable Media
Improbable Media was established from the partnership between Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo and former Chicago Bulls point guard Jay Williams. The duo wanted their production house to provide an outlet for upcoming athletes, entertainers, and other performers to share their stories.
The production company’s debut project is a feature-length documentary entitled “Giannis: The Marvelous Journey,” which detailed the story of the eight-time NBA All-Star’s journey from Nigeria to Athens.
“Through every turn of my journey, I realize how unlikely it was that I ended up where I am today,” Giannis said. “In everything that we do at Improbable Media, I want to inspire people from all backgrounds and walks of life on the power in making the improbable, probable in their lives.”
This was fun, with ESPN’s Jay Williams about Improbable Media, the company he’s launched with NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo. They also want to advise up-and-coming athletes who haven’t learned to think more strategically about their personal brand. https://t.co/ZU6UTlgmWK pic.twitter.com/rYBKI1cY9j

According to David Bloom of Forbes, Williams spent years monitoring what LeBron James and Maverick Carter did with their projects at the SpringHill Company. The former NBA player hopes to build the same infrastructure with Antetokounmpo at Improbable Media.
