Another week, another Packers drubbing of a divisional foe. MVS is hot and Lazard is Mr. Consistent. But this was not exactly a week for clarity.
Davante Adams was getting all the headlines after week 1, but a semi-early injury sidelined him for the remainder of the game. Aaron Jones then took it upon himself to have the best game of his career, racking up a whopping 45.6(!) fantasy points. The Lions simply had no answer for the contract-year back. But after these two juggernauts, who is capable of stepping up into the pantheon of “fantasy-relevant” skill players?
If Adams misses any time or is put on a snap-count, the next men up on the depth chart are Alien Lizard and Marky Valdey-Scat. Sorry, misread that. It’s actually Allen Lazard and Marquez Valdes-Scantling. Now there has been a lot of debate in the offseason as to who would be the #2 guy, and despite the depth chart showing us that Lazard is the man behind Adams, the numbers don’t lie.

Week 1: Lazard (4 Targets/4 Rec/63 Yards/1 Rush/19 Yards/1 Rec TDs)
A perfect 4/4 outing for Lazard on an Adams-heavy day with a score (and one fun run) made Lazard an easy snatch on the waiver-wire if he wasn’t already drafted in many leagues. An injury to Adams, or if the defense could get a couple stops preventing this game from being weirdly close, could have given Lazard more opportunities, but alas.
Week 1: MVS (6 Targets/4 Rec/96 Yards/1 TD)
Two very ugly drops prevented this from being an incredible day for MVS, and he would have likely had a day comparable to Adams on less than half his targets. But the drop woes continue for a player whose career has been marred by such offenses. But, unlike previous years, Rodgers kept looking his way, showing trust in the young wideout who averaged nearly 25 yards a catch in this outing.
Week 2: Lazard (5 Targets/3 Rec/45 Yards/0 TDs)
Bit of a clunker, especially with Adams out for most of the game. Yes, you do have Jones running around everyone, so the passing game less of a need to be dynamic. However, this was underwhelming considering the nearly perfect circumstances.

Week 2: MVS (7 Targets/3 Rec/64 Yards/0 TDs)
A very inefficient day after a pretty hot week. What stands out here is the SEVEN targets, which is two shy of what Lazard has had ALL SEASON. This is the most telling stat to me from a fantasy standpoint. Rodgers is looking at MVS, and he is simply getting more open. Three of MVS’s targets were in the red zone. These will likely go back to Adams upon return, but after getting a glimpse of what life with a downed Adams would be like, I think we’ve seen what we need to see to make a decision.
THE VERDICT?
Lazard is much more consistent. He’s nearly a sure thing for Rodgers when the ball is tossed his way. However, both weeks so far, MVS has gotten more targets and yards. He is a much more explosive and dynamic player. Think of him as a Will Fuller V-with-Hopkins-type. Extremely boom or bust any given week. Definitely not going to get as many targets as you’d hope, but Lazard gets even fewer, so from a fantasy-perspective, MVS is a solid waiver-wire stash for bye-week season.
