MLB Trade Rumors: The Texas Rangers are reportedly in on two premier pitching talents that could be available at this year’s trade deadline. Some indications have pointed towards them wanting to acquire both a top end starting pitcher as well as a back end of the bullpen arm. Depending upon the team this could be done in one swoop, but there are options in which multiple teams have trade targets for them to consider.

Per reports the Texas Rangers are interested in premier pitchers Justin Verlander of the New York Mets and Jordan Hicks of the St. Louis Cardinals (MLB Trade Rumors).
Brian McTaggart, Houston Astros beat reporter, indicated that his sources are saying that the Texas Rangers are interested in Justin Verlander. Given Houston’s previous connection with Verlander they too were mentioned as inquiring about him.
Complicating any potential deal for Justin Verlander is his contract and full-no trade clause. He is currently on a two-year deal with the New York Mets and will be owed $43.3 million for this season and next season. In 2025 there is a $35 million option.
In regards to Jordan Hicks Bob Nightengale reported that the Rangers could pursue him. Hicks is in an interesting situation in which he is set to be a free agent at seasons end and the St. Louis Cardinals are knowingly looking to extend him. If a deal cannot be made he very likely will be traded.
The Rangers have been linked to a lot of starting pitchers and relievers. It will be interesting to see who they end up adding.
