MLB Trade Rumors: The New York Mets made a flurry of moves at this year’s trade deadline. They parted ways with players such as David Robertson, Max Scherzer, Justin Verlander, Mark Canha, Tommy Pham, and Dominic Leon. In doing this they have nearly cleared the financial slate clean for a potential soft rebuild with the intention of competing again in a few years.
One player that may or may not be a part of the contending Mets in the future is three time All-Star first baseman Pete Alonso. The polar bear is under team control through just the 2024 season, his arbitration cost is rising, and there have been no reports of an extension to keep him.
Per a recent report from Michael Marino the feeling from rival executives is that the Mets will explore trading him this offseason. He also reports that the two sides are not anywhere close to agreeing on a contract extension.
New York Mets star first baseman Pete Alonso has an uncertain future with the team (MLB Trade Rumors).

This report is likely the first of several regarding the availability of Pete Alonso. If the Mets truly want to enter a rebuild based on prospects received this year and potentially from a block buster Pete Alonso deal, then it makes sense to trade him. On the other hand New York has shown that they are not afraid to have the highest payroll, so it would be surprising to see them not pay one of the leagues best power hitting first baseman and provide some offensive stability throughout their rebuild.
