MLB Trade Rumors: The Miami Marlins have been a surprise team this season and are currently in the hunt for a playoff spot. It is unlikely that they, or anyone in the NL East for that matter, will catch the Atlanta Braves, but their 53-47 record puts them right in the thick of things for a Wild Card spot.
Starting pitching has been a huge strength for the Marlins this season. One big weakness has been production at third base. Jean Segura was brought in during the offseason, but has struggled. Jon Berti has been solid at the plate but has been playing more shortstop. This does put them in the market for a third baseman and recently they were linked to a switch hitter from the Washington Nationals.
Miami Marlins linked to Washington Nationals third baseman Jaimer Candelario (MLB Trade Rumors).
Jaimer Candelario is one of the top third basemen available at this year’s trade deadline. The 29 year old switch hitter is having a career year in which through 91 games he has a .812 OPS and 126 OPS+. He will become a free agent at seasons end, which should keep his cost down and the likelihood of the Nationals moving him very high.
Per Bob Nightengale the Marlins have been linked to showing interest in him. They believe that he would be a perfect fit for their ball club. Unfortunately a lot of other teams feel the same way, so it will be interesting to see if Miami can pull off a trade or not.
