MLB Trade Rumors: The Boston Red Sox, who play in a tough AL East division, are within a few games of a Wild Card spot just days before the trade deadline. Reports from the team have indicated that they are keeping Justin Turner, but more recently are listening to offers on another valuable team asset. That player was one of the key pieces of the 2020 Mookie Betts deal.
Boston Red Sox reportedly listening to offers for Alex Verdugo (MLB Trade Rumors).
Per Chris Cortillo, Red Sox beat report at MassLive, Alex Verdugo trade discussions are being listened to by the front office. With a year and a half of team control remaining Verudgo finds himself in that gray area where this season his trade value is substantially higher than one year from now.
Aside from trade value, Alex Verdugo is a good player to have. Since joining Boston in 2020 as a key piece of the Mookie Betts trade, the left-handed batter has not posted an OPS+ less than 100. This year he has a .272/.345/.424 slash line that is headlined by 27 doubles.
Should a team be wanting to acquire Alex Verdugo it may take a rather substantial package in order to acquire him. Boston is currently in playoff contention so one can assume that MLB ready players would likely be involved in a potential deal.
Right now the Red Sox are just listening to offers, which is a reasonable thing to do at this juncture.
