MLB Network recently did a top 10 list regarding the best relievers right now. On that list was Brewers pitcher Devin Williams. Williams was ranked as the third best relief pitcher in the game. He trails only Emmanuel Clase and Edwin Diaz. Former Brewer Josh Hader did not make the top 10.

How has Devin Williams performed in order to be ranked the third best reliever in the game right now?
Williams broke out during the shortened 2020 season. That year he won Rookie Of The Year as well as NL Reliever Of The Year. He allowed one earned run in 27 innings pitched and struck out 53 batters.
In 2021, he was not as dominant and struggled a bit in the first half of the season. As the season progressed, he found his command and managed to put together another very impressive season. That year he finished with a 2.50 ERA over 54 innings, struck out 87 batters, collected 23 holds, and three saves.
Last season, Williams was dominant from the start and was elected to his first All-Star game. He checked a lot of boxes in 2022 including pitching three consecutive games in a row. Additionally, he gained a lot of experience closing out games after the team traded Josh Hader at the deadline. Over 60 innings pitched in 2022 he collected 26 holds, 15 saves, and had a 1.93 ERA.
Since 2020, Williams ranks near the top of the league among relievers in several pitching categories. Despite recently stepping into the closers role, this helps show why MLB Network ranked him among the leagues best in the game right now.
