The New York Mets 2023 season has not gone as planned, and they are a bottom-10 team in all of baseball. With the MLB trade deadline set for next Tuesday, Aug. 1, many names are being rumored in trade talks.
MLB Trade Deadline Rumors: New York Mets Pitcher Justin Verlander
One of the names that have been mentioned in trade rumors is New York Mets starting pitcher Justin Verlander. He has been linked in a potential trade with the San Francisco Giants. San Francisco is currently one of the wild card teams in the National League.
Another thing to remember is that Justin Verlander has a full no-trade clause in his contract. Justin Verlander is currently on a 2-year deal with the New York Mets and will be owed $43.3 million for this season and next season. In 2025, he has a $35 million option, according to Spotrac. Justin Verlander is 40 years old and a future Hall of Famer.
He can possibly help another team win a World Series Title, and it doesn’t feel like with the New York Mets because they are an awful baseball team at the moment. During the 2023 season, Justin Verlander has pitched 14 games and has a 4-5 record. He’s pitched in 83.0 innings and has given up 70 hits and 35 runs. Verlander has also walked 26 batters and has struck out 70.
The New York Mets are potentially going to have a fire sale within the next week of trading veteran players for prospects to fix up the depleted farm system. This was a team that was supposed to have high expectations in 2023, but it has fallen flat on their faces once again. If Justin Verlander decides to waive his no-trade clause but does not go to the San Francisco Giants, where else can he go?
Los Angeles Dodgers
The Los Angeles Dodgers are banged up in the starting rotation currently. Los Angeles is currently leading the National League West and is primed up for another run. The Dodgers have the prospects to give the New York Mets in return for Justin Verlander.
Baltimore Orioles
Do the Baltimore Orioles feel ready to win the World Series this season? They are currently the No. 1 seed in the American League and can use a veteran pitcher to get them over the top. Justin Verlander being traded from the New York Mets to Baltimore would be very interesting because the Orioles have a lot of prospects to potentially unload in a trade.
